Get Romantic!

Schumannfest 2012

Put your ear to your heart, Dear Audience,

Robert Schumann lives! And he is as alive as we are: the grand German romantic and free spirit is an inspiring vehicle, that shows us, the folks of today new, unexpected spheres. The encounter with this spectacular musician evokes deep emotions: subjectivity, desire, curiousness, passion. Schumann inspired us as a godfather, ideas generator, mentor, encourager.

This is why the Schumann city Düsseldorf allows itself not only to present him as a museum centre piece. We have questions for Schumann, we wish to follow his tracks, feel his emotions, discover his musical ancestors. Varied artisits such as the Emerson String Quartet, Tzimon Barto, die Camerata Salzburg, Hauschka, Owen Pallett, Kristian Järvi, the Bundes Jazzorchestra, Katia & Marielle Labèque, Michael Barenboim, Igudesman & Joo, die 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic …

They have all agreed to familiarise an open-hearted audience with the fantastic world of Robert Schumann with exclusive Schumann Festival creations. With individual programmes, unusual performance ideas or contemporary sound adaptations.
Forever in the footsteps of Schumann, but also somewhat ‘off the beaten track’.

Come and join us, we are looking forward to having you.

Yours,

Michael Becker

Visit the Schumann Festival Düsseldorf 2012

Stroll along the tracks of the great romantic composer who spent his final working years in Düsseldorf. Experience high class concert happenings and discover, just by chance, the most cosmopolitan village (Dorf) in the world – the young and beautiful in the bend of the Rhine; the elegant crowd on the Königsallee; the innovative scene in the Harbour; the arts lovers in the rich and plentiful arts temples – a city, that with great panache and delight lives very much for today.

Take a culinary journey as the city is home to some of the best Asian restaurants in Germany thanks to the thriving Japanese community or sample the hearty Rheinisch cuisine and of course no trip would be complete with a taste of our very own Altbier (Old Beer, a Düsseldorf speciality) on ‘the longest bar in the world’.

Another Düsseldorf Musical Highlight!
Allow us to take you on the ‘We Love Music’ tour – a musical journey of the city’s rich and extraordinary history from Schumann and Mendelssohn to the hugely influential Kraftwerk to Germany’s biggest rock band, the Toten Hosen and independent festivals such as The Open Source Festival. All Düsseldorf names and projects …. Please find further information here: http://www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/en/public-guided-tours/we-love-music/
